About Elaine
Welcome. I'm Elaine Baptista, a qualified counsellor and psychotherapist based in Cork City.

Who I Am
I work from a humanistic integrative perspective, drawing on Gestalt, Existential, and Person-Centred approaches. I believe that with the right support, people have the capacity to navigate even the most challenging circumstances and move toward meaningful growth. After more than 20 years working closely with people as a hairdresser, I retrained as a therapist to deepen my understanding of myself and others.
I'm passionate about helping people make sense of who they are, find meaning in their experiences, and move toward growth with compassion and authenticity.
My Journey to Therapy
Before becoming a therapist, I spent over two decades working as a hairdresser, supporting people from many different backgrounds, ages, and life situations. Those years taught me the value of truly listening, being present, and meeting people with care, curiosity, and respect.
My decision to come to counselling — both personally and professionally — grew from a deep longing to understand myself and how I function in the world. I have always been passionate about people: their stories, their resilience, and the many ways they make sense of their experiences. Learning how humans feel, think, and relate has always fascinated me, and working collaboratively toward growth and clarity brings me genuine joy.
Today, I bring all of this into my therapeutic work. I aim to offer a grounded, compassionate, and non-judgmental space where you can explore your inner world, reconnect with your sense of meaning, and discover what feels authentic and true for you. I see you as the expert of your own life, and together we work at your pace, following what feels most relevant and alive in the moment.
